Mediation involves the intervention of a third person, the mediator, into a dispute, conflict or disagreement, to assist parties in negotiating a jointly acceptable resolution and outcome of issues or conflict. The mediator meets with the parties at a neutral location where the parties can discuss issues and explore a variety of solutions.
The mediator will guide the conversation, ask questions, reframe issues, assist the parties to understand each other, and help identify solutions. Mediators are impartial and neutral, do not take sides, do not pass down decisions, do not offer legal or financial advice or reveal confidences.
